A young French brand, Depancel, known for its racing-inspired watches, has recently been focusing on developing its chronograph collections. In a departure from the traditionally round watches, the brand has introduced the first chronograph in its square-shaped collection, the Serie-R Tangerine Chronograph Automatic.
The unique case design of the Serie-R Tangerine Chronograph is inspired by the front grilles of vintage cars, paying tribute to the glorious French car manufacturers Delage, Panhard, and Facel Vega. The case measures 36mm in width, 40mm in height (excluding lugs), and has a thickness of 13.3mm. It features a curved line on the top, resembling radiator grilles, and is equipped with two integrated rectangular pushers and a crown with an orange insert.
The watch is housed in a stainless steel case that combines satin-brushed and polished surfaces, giving it a sophisticated look. The dial of the Serie-R Tangerine Chronograph is a combination of blue and orange, with a grille-like engraved pattern on the periphery and a sunray-brushed lower part. An orange stripe runs from 11 to 7 o'clock, and orange accents can be seen on the chronograph hands and the frame of the off-centred 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock. The watch is completed with a perforated leather strap in blue with orange stitching, further enhancing its racing-inspired design.
The movement powering the Serie-R Tangerine Chronograph is the Peacock SL-4801, a Chinese movement with modern features such as a column wheel, a vertical clutch, and a transversal balance bridge. With a power reserve of 60 hours and a frequency of 4Hz, this automatic chronograph ensures reliable and accurate timekeeping.
The Depancel Serie-R Tangerine Chronograph Automatic will be released as a limited edition of 300 pieces. It will be available for order on June 11th, 2024, on the brand's website, with deliveries scheduled for December 2024. The watch is priced at an undisclosed amount.
