Cuervo y Sobrinos, a Swiss watch brand with Cuban roots, has launched a new watch collection named Historiador Nino Farina II, available at AllTime stores. These watches are dedicated to the celebrated Italian racing driver and the first winner of "Formula-1".
Historiador Nino Farina II is the second limited edition chronograph series by Cuervo y Sobrinos, following the immediate success of the previous collection. The new model features a vintage style inspired by the "automotive" watches of the 20th century, with chronograph counters, a tachymeter scale, and a perforated strap reminiscent of the gloves worn by early race car drivers. The watch is designed to capture the speed of historical races while keeping up with the fast pace of today's world.
Cuervo y Sobrinos has made some modifications to the previous Nino Farina collection. The new watches come in a richer color palette and a more compact 40mm case, fitting the modern trend of smaller watches suitable for both men and women. The unique combination of colors in these watches evokes the Alfa Romeo 158, the car on which Nino Farina became the world champion on September 3, 1950, at the "Formula-1" track in Monza.
The red hands of the chronograph counters pay homage to the iconic red elongated body of the Alfa Romeo "Alfetta," which resembled either a cigar or an airplane fuselage. The central second hand and a part of the tachymeter scale are designed in green, representing the historical symbol of Alfa Romeo, the four-leaf clover. The matte brown perforated strap, accentuated with a light blue stitching resembling the chrono counter discs, is made of calf leather. The watch collection is limited to 158 pieces, inspired by the legendary model number of the Alfa Romeo 158 racing car.
The 40mm case is made of stainless steel and features chronograph counters, a date function, and a tachymeter scale. The "engine" of the Nino Farina II watch is an automatic Swiss ETA movement with a power reserve of 42 hours. The watch rotor is engraved with the brand name, and the back glass is signed by Nino Farina himself.
Despite the clear references to the automotive design of the past century, these watches exude a stylish and modern appearance. Legends never go out of style; they are continually embodied in the imagination of new generations.
Nino Farina (1906-1966), the racing driver, was born in Turin, Italy. He was the son of the owner of Carrozzeria Farina, a renowned coachbuilding company, and the nephew of the founder of Pininfarina, the most famous Italian automotive design brand. Farina's greatest achievement in motorsport was winning the first "Formula-1" World Championship in 1950, driving the iconic red cigar-shaped Alfa Romeo 158. Throughout his career, Nino exclusively raced Italian cars - Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Lancia, and finally, Ferrari. Enzo Ferrari, to whom Nino brought several prizes, described him as a man of courage who surpassed human limitations.
