Aera, the microbrand established by Olof Larsson and Jas Minhas, is known for its design-focused approach to watchmaking. The brand's latest offerings, the C-1 Shadow and C-1 Cloud mechanical chronographs, continue this trend with their unique design language.
The C-1 Shadow and C-1 Cloud chronographs feature a large yet soft pebble-like case, curved lugs, and integrated straps. Both models use the Sellita SW510 Bi-compax automatic caliber and have a power reserve of 56 hours. The cases are made of 904L stainless steel, with the Shadow model sporting a matte black PVD coating and the Cloud model featuring the standard 904L case.
The C-1 Shadow Chronograph stands out with its contrasting black and red color scheme. It has a matte black finish, engraved numerals on the curved bezel, and a single-piece "dished" dial with white markings. The red lacquered subdial counters and sword hands are coated with Super-LumiNova for enhanced visibility. The AERA logo at 12 o'clock is machined from solid Globolight, adding a three-dimensional touch to the watch. The Shadow model comes with black rubber and orange leather straps.
In contrast, the C-1 Cloud Chronograph has a softer and lighter tone. It features a pale matte grey-blue dial with dark grey printed numerals and white subdials. The sky blue chronograph subdial hands and center seconds hand add a touch of color to the watch. Like the Shadow, it also has the AERA logo in solid Globolight. The Cloud model comes with white rubber and light grey calfskin straps.
Both chronographs have solid engraved screw-in case backs and come with a handmade leather pouch. The limited edition C-1 Shadow is priced at £2100, while the C-1 Cloud is priced at £1950. Aera is offering the first 100 pieces of each model as part of the pre-order phase.
Aera's mechanical chronographs demonstrate the brand's commitment to its design philosophy. These distinctive timepieces cater to customers looking for something different and offer a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. While the pricing is higher compared to Aera's previous watches, the unique design language and premium materials justify the cost.
Overall, the C-1 Shadow and C-1 Cloud chronographs mark an important milestone for Aera as the brand expands its product range. By staying true to its design-driven approach, Aera is carving out a niche in the watch industry and attracting a loyal following.
