More Than Just Watches: HUAWEI Watch D2 Review

2024-10-14 // SuperPodium
HUAWEI Watch D2 is a unique smartwatch that supports 24-hour blood pressure monitoring. This article provides an in-depth review of the watch's features and capabilities.

HUAWEI Watch D2 is the world's first smartwatch that supports 24-hour blood pressure monitoring. Unlike other smartwatches, the D2 utilizes a function called Continuous Blood Pressure Monitoring (CBPM), which measures blood pressure every 15, 30, or 45 minutes throughout the day. This allows for tracking changes in blood pressure during different times of the day and evaluating the rhythm of blood pressure, which is essential for diagnosing hypertension and cardiovascular risks.

Hypertension is a prevalent and dangerous chronic condition, affecting approximately 1.28 billion people worldwide. However, only 54% of individuals with hypertension have a confirmed diagnosis due to various factors such as emotional state, environmental conditions, and diet. Traditional blood pressure measurements in clinics may not capture accurate readings for everyone, as some individuals experience elevated blood pressure due to stress, while others may have normal blood pressure in a clinical setting but high blood pressure at home. CBPM provides a clear picture of blood pressure patterns and is recommended for diagnosing hypertension.

The HUAWEI Watch D2 solves the inconvenience of traditional CBPM devices by integrating the blood pressure monitoring function into the watch strap. The strap, made of sweat-resistant and hypoallergenic materials, features a built-in mechanical cuff that ensures secure fit and easy inflation. The cuff inflator is located within the watch, eliminating the need for external devices. The measurement process takes 30 seconds and provides accurate readings.

The watch's battery can last approximately a week under normal usage, including 2-3 blood pressure measurements per day. The device runs on HarmonyOS 5.0 and is compatible with Android 8.0 and higher, as well as iOS 13.0 and higher. The Huawei Health app is used to collect and analyze data from the watch, providing insights into various health metrics such as heart rate, oxygen saturation, stress levels, sleep quality, and more.

The HUAWEI Watch D2 is not just a health monitoring device; it also encompasses all the features of a modern smartwatch. With a durable glass and aluminum body, a bright and readable display, a control button and wheel, and a speaker for making calls directly from the watch, the D2 offers a complete smartwatch experience. Additionally, it supports 80 different sports modes for enthusiasts.

While the D2 is a niche device designed for individuals with hypertension or those who prioritize their health, it may not be necessary for everyday casual users or serious athletes who require more robust devices. However, Huawei has made significant strides in the development of wearables with the introduction of CBPM, and future advancements such as non-invasive blood glucose monitoring are anticipated.
